Phase one of Onion CMS nears completion
Our new CMS is now reaching a point of readiness as completion of phase one of the Onion is now in sight.  We estimate that testing of 'The Onion' will have started as of the 8th of October.  As we enter our final week of this very exciting project, ware are looking forward to building some interesting new sites over the next couple of months and are getting ready to start approaching new and existing clients to present 'The Onion' as the improved way that Cambridge Webworks build and manage clients websites.

We are now planning our roadmap of the next phases of 'The Onion' and are expected to release this roadmap to the website by end of October.  We do however see that a Ecommerce platform and Gallery will be a couple of the first additions to the new platform.  Both Jonathan and Stephen have been working tirelessly on the new platform and are both excited to start actually building sites.  We see that this platform takes us further than the standard current Open Source CMS's on offer.

History and useful information

The Onion is based upon a layered approach to web design and development.   We have built the new CMS from the ground up and all parts of the CMS have been built as useable objects in their own right.  We have looked at the good and bad points of products like Joomla, Mambo, Drupal and OS Commerce to name a few and made our own interpretation in 'The Onion'.  We will have :-

Articles
Blueprints
Profiles
Sections
Templates
Widgets

To name but a few improved ways of dealing with the administration of the CMS.  We have utilised current proven technologies including PHP and JavaScript.  We have rigorously tested our code as we have build this product and are confident that bugs if any will be kept to a minimum.  Browser compatibility has been high on our agenda as too has WC3 compliance as well as search engine friendly options.  Where possible we have worked very hard on confirming with compliance on all angles of the CMS.    From an administrators or users view the CMS will be layered for basic to advanced admin.

So to finish, watch this space as we ready ourselves to release 'The Onion' to the marketplace and to start building easy to use websites for both users and administrators.  One of the 1st sites to be built with 'The Onion' will be the improved 'Living Sport' site, boasting several improved areas of functionality as well as user experience.
